Clinical Studies on the Juvenile ( below the age of twenty five years ) Gastric Cancer

Abstract
The clinical patterns of 31 cases of advanced gastric cancers occured in Korean young adults between 19 and 25-year-old were described in this report. Of 31 cases of advanced cancers, 80.6% were in poor economic status and 19.3% had the family history of stomach or liver cancer. Main symptoms were epigastralgia (87.0%) and nausea and vomiting (45.1%). In physical and laboratory findings palpable abdominal mass were noted in 22.8%, abdominal tenderness were 90.3% and Virchow¢¥s nodule were observed in 16.1%. Hemoglobin level below 10.0g/dl was shown in only 32.2% (X¡¾S.D.=11.1¡¾2.68).
In the treatment, performing surgical management five cases were explorated, one case was total gastrectomy, six cases were subtotal gastrectomy, four cases were gastro-jejunostomy and fifteen cases were inoperable. In the types of cancer there was no one case with Borrmann¢¥s type I and II, but type III were 25.8% and type IV were observed in 74.2%. On the surgical sixteen cases, 68.8% were histoathologically adenocarcinoma type. Duration from onset to the admission was 3.1¡¾1.68 months and duration of life from onset of complaints to the death was 5.2¡¾2.52 months. It can be conclusively said that in advanced gastric cancer of youth symptoms begin abruptly and are grave. And they are hardly detected and prognosis is very unfavorable.
